A Little Typ-sy About the Mobile Bar Industry

Let's raise one up for the Typsy Gypsy!

One of my favorite aspects of the wedding and event industry in North Idaho is the quality of the people we get to work with.  Yes, there’ll always be bad apples but they are truly few and far between around here.  Every person that we’ve talked to has been so helpful, and the growing pains are made less severe when you have a village to help you build.

Last week, Daniel and I met with LaCheale for sushi in Sandpoint, Idaho.  LaCheale is one of the industry's most honest, down-to-earth people and has been a friend the whole time we’ve known her.  She’s a straight shooter and won’t take any crap, but she has an absolute heart of gold and will go the extra mile to make your day as special as it should be.

LaCheale is the owner of the Typsy Gypsy Mobile Bar and has been killing it!  Her years of bartending experience mixed with her entrepreneurial mindset has set her business up for success.  Though only in operation for a couple of years now, she’s already been able to upgrade her trailer to offer even more features.  She works with you to get you exactly what you want - to the point of creating signature drinks to pair perfectly with your event.  And maybe your event isn’t accessible by the trailer? Well, don’t you worry! She has the ~ Tiny Typsy ~ a cute cart that can be rolled into any building and still fully fit for service.

One of the biggest learning curves in the business is where to set your boundaries.  Naturally, we started talking about how we’ve struggled with this, especially during the first years which are run by the ‘never say no’ mentality.  Unfortunately, these boundaries we learn to set are usually determined through trial and error…and by that I mean lots of repeated errors, and severe exhaustion. After giving too many people the benefit of the doubt, you learn that having a backbone and some hard limits in your business can give you an extra edge - people will respect you as a serious business and business owner.  One of LaCheale’s preferences with the TypsyGypsy is to be more exclusive to professional venue-only events.  Though she can and will come out to your private property, there are a lot more pros for her if you have a venue that’s been booked for the event.

Some perks for the venue?  It’s usually a safer place to park…meaning, she’s not going to tip off a cliff into Lake Pend Oreille or roll into a ditch on a steep dirt road. Another perk is that last call truly means the LAST call.  On private properties, it’s easy to be asked to stay an extra hour or two, or even three, but at a venue, there are usually strict time limits for how long people can stay.  Lastly, a professional venue usually has the proper equipment to move her trailer into place.  Though some venues have a designated spot for a trailer, they’re not always easy to access.  But at a venue, you can count on a sober, skilled driver to help back her to where she needs to be, while on private property she runs the risk of non-sober individuals having to be responsible for her livelihood - a position no wedding vendor ever wants to be in.

But enough about the gritty details, right? The most important thing you need to know is that  LeCheale needs to be a part of your next event because the TypsyGypsy isn’t exclusive to just weddings.  She travels all over North Idaho, Eastern Washington, and Western Montana doing public events out of her mobile bar as well as private events for any function.  What makes her extra special is that she’s one of the few mobile bars in Idaho with a liquor license, meaning she can purchase and sell her alcohol - a selling point to many of her clients.

Now for the best part of the TypsyGypsy mobile bar - the pairing of beer and barbecue!  We’ve done several events together and we go hand-in-hand to make your event the best.
